Over 100,000 bales of cotton will be exported to Türkiye next month, at an average price of $750 per bale, according to ABC. China has told Chinese mills not to use Australian cotton in recent years as part of the growing tensions in between two countries, forcing Australian cotton producers to look for new markets.
The export opportunity, which was hampered by shipping containers shortage, is to be saved by a 'historic' innovation.
The exporters will use a hospital-grade ship with a special crane system that would allow them to move the cotton across the oceans without damaging it. They will be moving cotton in bulk, like they used to do more than a century ago.
Türkiye, one of Europe's largest textile manufacturing hubs, currently consumes eight to ten percent of Australia's cotton harvest, according to ABC.
