The only European airline in Skytrax Top 10 Airlines globally to fly to Australia will be Turkiye's national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines before the end of 2023, according to industry news.
Initially, there will be three flights operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft to Sydney or Melbourne via Singapore.
Under existing Australian traffic rights agreements, the airline is allowed to operate just four weekly flights to Australia, but to any destination within the country.
“Melbourne seems to offer ... more advantages regarding [the] local Turkish population—the catchment area is big, and not so many airlines are flying there,” Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat told Kurt Hoffman from Sam Chui, an aviation news outlet.
Skytrax ranked Turkish Airlines, sixth best airline globally in 2023 "voted by travellers around the world."
Australians flying to Europe or Middle East with Turkish Airlines will also have the chance to use Istanbul Airport as a hopping point to their next destination. Istanbul Airport has also been ranked as the sixth best airport in the world by Skytrax survey for 2022-2023.
