Turkish Airlines To Fly Direct to Australia.

First flagged as an ambition by late Turkish President Turgut Ozal during his visit to Australia in early 1980s, direct flights between Australia and Turkey is once again on the cards, according to the CEO of the national carrier.

Speaking at the IATA annual general meeting, the airline’s CEO, Ahmet Bolat, outlined the carrier’s ambition to begin operating flights from Istanbul to both Sydney and Melbourne in 2026 or 2027.

With technological developments in aircraft manufacturing solving many problems in long haul flights, Istanbul's new airport connecting hundreds of destinations as a major hub also making the project more feasible in commercial and operational terms.

Turkish Airlines is not only a carrier of choice for more than 150 thousand Australian-Turks, but also many Australians with connections to Middle East, including to Israel.
