In Australia, the number of flu cases is soaring and several states are making flu shots free in order to urging people to get jabbed.
However, multicultural advocates are concerned that health messaging may not be reaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.
Data from the Department of Health shows that Australia has recorded more than 38,000 flu cases this year, with most cases being reported in just a two-week period. The surge in the number of new cases has reached such a level that five states have made flu vaccination free.
Mohammad Al-Khafaji – CEO of the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) told SBS News that the health messages from government all across Australia needed to improve.
"We need to make sure that [multicultural] communities understand the different nature of the flu season this time round." he said.
