The foreign ministers of Israel and Turkey have met in Jerusalem, with Israel's Yair Lapid saying they are opening a "new chapter" in relations. They hope to expand economic and civil cooperation between their countries, taking advantage of their comparative advantages regionally and globally.
Turkey and Israel are trying to mend relations, which have been strained since the late 2000s.
The visit comes after years of Turkey's accusations over Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories, and Israel's reaction to Ankara’s support for Hamas, which governs the blockaded Gaza Strip, and other regional issues.
