The inflation raised to 70% after the Turkish Statistical Institute has revised its month-to-month consumer price index rate at 7.25%. Economists believe global inflationary pressures, war in Ukraine, and domestic economic weaknesses are creating the perfect inflation storm for Turks.
Turkey has been hosting over 4 million refugees mainly from Syria, and the issue continue to become a hot debate among political parties getting ready for next year's elections. This week, the leader of a Turkish political party, which campaigns around the sole topic of sending refugees back to Syria, had stole the airwaves by a public spat with Turkish Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu. Turkish President Erdogan vowed to send one million Syrian refugees back to Syria once the permanent residential settlements are built for them. Experts believe it is a multi-faceted complex issue which requires involvement from many different foreign parties to solve.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed the war in Ukraine in a phone call on Thursday, the Turkish presidency said, adding that Erdogan congratulated Macron on his election victory.
