Collingwood CEO and AFL Legend visit Turkish Consulate

AFL legend Mick Malthouse and Collingwood CEO Mark Anderson together with representatives of the Turkish community have visited Turkish Consulate General in Melbourne.

The visit took place following the Australian-Turkish community's outrage to a speech given by Malthouse ahead of the Anzac Day game, which was aired by media.

Malthouse and Anderson told the Turkish Consulate General, only a very short excerpt of Malthouse's speech was aired, and they claimed this was a wide misrepresentation of his intentions.

In his 40-minute-long speech, Mick had quoted a fallen Anzac soldier’s letter to his parents. In his speech Mick had also praised the Turkish nation and the Turkish soldiers that fought the Anzacs in Gallipoli, according to Anderson and Malthouse.

Both Malthouse and Anderson expressed deep regret from the misrepresentation of the speech in the media.

Consul General Torun thanked Mick and Mark for their visit and their willingness to meet with the Turkish-Australian community.
